Context
The client set out to launch their own VPN product. NekaSoft joined at the start and took on the technical delivery of the client applications for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
The client brought well-defined business requirements and ready design mockups. The choice of technical approach, architecture, and implementation tools stayed on the NekaSoft side.
What we owned
We translated the business requirements into a technical solution and were responsible for delivery and release on all five platforms.
Technical approach
- Choice of the application foundation
- Solution architecture
- Cross-platform core with targeted native code
Build
- Desktop and mobile clients
- Xray integration to the client's requirements
- Complex network logic and routing
- Backend and DevOps
Release
- Build and release infrastructure
- Code signing, certificates, provisioning profiles
- Store publication for each platform
Support
- Post-release technical support
- Product evolution after launch
Solution
The applications were built with cross-platform technologies, with the main development in JavaScript and TypeScript.
- Electron apps for Windows, macOS, and Linux
- Cordova apps for iOS and Android
- Targeted native code, including Swift on Apple platforms
- Xray integration and custom routing
- Complex network logic
- Full release cycle: builds, signing, certificates, publication
The applications were delivered as a unified cross-platform application ecosystem: Electron for desktop and Cordova for mobile, with native code added where platform-specific integration required it. The hardest part was the Apple ecosystem, where the network implementation, platform restrictions, and publication requirements had to be handled at once.
Result
The client got a production-ready VPN product with applications for Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, and iOS.
- The applications were published and reached real users
- They became the client side of a commercial VPN service
- The client was able to launch, develop, and sell their own VPN product on the major desktop and mobile platforms
Delivery
The main development ran for about two years.
After the main development cycle, the product continued to evolve with the growing involvement of the client's in-house technical team. The applications remain in production and in commercial use to this day.
Technology
Swift was used for native integrations where the cross-platform layer was not enough on Apple platforms.
